DRGO Update for March 6, 2017

We’re glad to have you with us, knowing you are more representative of our profession than our specialty organizations when it comes to the right to keep and bear arms.

Please let your friends and colleagues know that DRGO can speak for them, too. Invite them to review the website and, if they value what we are doing, to join us, too.

News:

Physician-related Second Amendment news was dominated by the 11th Circuit Court’s en banc ruling against the bulk of Florida’s Firearm Owners’ Privacy Act.

Read the 2/21/17 Official DRGO Statement Regarding the en banc 11th Circuit Court Wollschlaeger (FOPA) Decision.

New articles:

We reported the news:

In Wollschlaeger (FOPA) Again 2/21/17, Dr. Young reported the 11th Circuit Court’s unfortunate en banc 10-1 ruling against Florida’s Firearm Owners Privacy Act. Although doctors are at liberty still to counsel anti-gun recommendations, at least they cannot refuse treatment to patients who  disagree with their politics.

We called out bad, anti-gun science and politics (too often intertwined):

Anti-Gun Academics Cry: “Please send money!” 2/28/17 by Dr. Brown, starring (who else) Dr. Garen Wintemute and the California legislature grabbing $5 million of taxpayer money to keep his “bad gun” research afloat.

We gave good advice on real public health needs:

In Guns, Grit and Good Health 2/23/17. Dr. Schwam points out the value of preventive health interventions against the possibility of bad actors infecting one’s life.

Dr. Vaughan, in Inconvenient Truth 3/2/17 underlines the importance of recognizing life’s hazards as they are, and the risks of denial.

Media appearances and other activity:

Dr. Young spoke with Cam Edwards 2/21/17 on NRA TV about the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals’s en banc ruling against Florida’s FOPA in Wollschlaeger v. Governor of Florida.
