The American College of Physicians Believes in the Monster Under The Bed

OK, not really. But they might as well. As we recently wrote, the American College of Physicians (ACP) has jumped headfirst back into gun control advocacy since the Sandy Hook mass shooting. In their New Year’s Day editorial they mention the ACP’s 1998 position paper on gun control, wondering why it didn’t get more traction back then. Well, just maybe it’s because of bloopers like this:

“Internists believe that the regulation of firearms can reduce gun injuries and deaths and that physicians should support community efforts to restrict ownership and sale of handguns [1]. College members strongly support firearms regulations, such as mandatory registration of all firearms, stricter laws on who should be allowed to buy a handgun, mandatory safety training for gun purchasers, child-proofing of firearms, and a ban on plastic guns that cannot be detected by metal detectors.”

Yes, it’s true. These self-appointed white-coated experts on gun policy, who want to ban many of your guns, still believe that there is such a thing as a plastic gun. I tweeted the ACP about this, but don’t look for a correction any time soon.
